1. Side Ancient City & Ruins

At the heart of Side lies the ancient city, where Hellenistic and Roman ruins stretch across a small peninsula. Key highlights include the ancient theater, agora, Temple of Apollo and Athena, and the Dionysus frieze. The site is a treasure trove of history, once ruled by the Lydians, Alexander the Great, the Ptolemaic dynasty, and later by the Roman and Byzantine empires.

2. Temple of Apollo & Athena

Side’s iconic Temple of Apollo was built during the Pax Romana period in the 2nd century AD and dedicated to the god of sun, music, and prophecy. Right next to it stands the Temple of Athena, goddess of wisdom and war. With its five standing columns, it’s one of the most photographed sites in Side — especially at sunset.

3. Side Museum

Located inside a restored Roman bath (Agora Bath), Side Museum is the first museum established in a Turkish village. Since 1962, it has housed artifacts from the Hittite, Roman, and Seljuk periods. Its courtyard displays coins, sculptures, glassware, jewelry, and more.

4. Side Ancient Theater

This massive Roman-style theater stands at the center of the ancient city and could hold thousands of spectators in its time. It’s believed to have hosted plays, public meetings, and competitions. A frieze depicting Dionysus, the god of wine and theater, can be seen in the scene building.

5. State Agora

This was the commercial and social hub of the ancient city. Much like a modern shopping district, the agora featured artisan workshops, markets, and temples. At its center lies a temple dedicated to Tyche, the goddess of fortune.

6. Monumental Fountain (Nymphaeum)

Welcoming visitors at the entrance of the ancient city, this three-tiered fountain from the Roman era features 21 columns, arched niches, and symbolic reliefs. It once supplied water to the ancient city and still showcases much of its original grandeur.
